Absolutely fantastic; the team of the decade. Bookmarked the the decade with World Series wins, four world series appearances in total. POPPIN BOTTLES
Andy Pettite was absolutely fantastic. All the Yankees needed was 6 decent innings… and he provided.
A-Rod finally got his ring providing that last piece to make him a viable candidate for G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time)
Mo said he can, and wants to, do it for another 5 years and who can say that might not be true? He is not human. He throws two pitches and has been for over 10 years and no one can still figure it out. He was over-the-hill in 2004, 2005, 2006, etc but still is the most dominant figure in all of sports. Ever. That’s a lock.
Whether he deserved it or not, Swisher was a fan favorite this year and certainly added a dimension (along with AJ and Damon) to the clubhouse that allowed the team to relax and just play baseball.
Interesting post from Pete Abraham of the LoHud Yankees Blog where he questions whether Joe Mauer actually has the MVP locked up. Joe Mauer will win it but Pete makes a good point. If someone mentions a Yankee for MVP it has been Tex… but Jeter should 100% be in the talk. MVP is a meaningless award and I could care less if Jeter wins it or what have you, but it he should be included in the convo:
Mauer:
Avg: .368
HR: 26
RBI: 80
OBP: .436
SLG: .615
Jeter:
Avg: .334
HR: 17
RBI: 60
OBP: .398
SLG: .482
As you can see, Mauer has better numbers and should win it but Jeter needs to be included in the conversation. The fact that Jeter has lead his team (.371 Average since July 1) to the best record in the majors isn’t a bad thing either. Where are all those idiot Boston fans that say Jeter sucks and is old and shouldn’t be a starter?
FYI, here are Teixeira’s numbers:
Tex:
Avg: .283
HR: 32
RBI: 101
OBP: .380
SLG: .545
Nothing matters but a World Series win and with Andy Pettite almost pitching a perfect game (screw you Hairston!… not really) last night the Yankees are looking strong heading into September.
