The Week That Was

July 7th, 2009

PACERS CLIPPERS

I haven’t been in SLTHQ for quite sometime now, last Tuesday to be exact, and DAMN has a lot of shit happened.  Let me give you a recap:

  • Ron Artest
  • Wack ass Federer beat my boy Andy Roddick in the finals at Wimbledon… going 30 games in the 5th set
  • Steve McNair?  So sad.  Hopefully a lot of dirt doesn’t come out on him to tarnish what his career
  • Brett Favre’s doctor said Brett wants to play and wants to play for the Vikings.  WTF.  Looks like I will have a new NFL team for the 09-10 season
  • RON ARTEST
  • Dwayne Wade gave himself an out for the NBA Free Agent Sweepstakes of 2010.
  • The wedding the Hurricane and I went to didn’t play any MJ… but the band kicked ASS.
  • The weather in the NY area was amazing… once again proving that God loves America
  • Wang got injured and will NOT be replaced by Phil Hughes, but rather  Alfredo “ACE” Aceves
  • ‘Sheed signed with the C’s, but that doesn’t matter because:
  • ROOOOON “MUTHA F*CKIN” ARTEST!
  • I watched a Roman Candle fight and it was fantastic
  • Ron Artest to the Lakers, in case you haven’t heard

All-in-all a fantastic week off…

Rasheed to C’s

July 6th, 2009

Big news this weekend is the game of basketball, but me being the homer I am I will only be speaking to the Celtics and their acquisition of Rasheed Wallace. Now I am not going to lie, I was very sceptical of this. Wallace is a bit of a hot head and has been known to get technical fouls during important games, however after reading quote after quote from former players saying how great of a team mate he was/is I have begun to love this trade. He will be the 6th man off the bench and will probably average 14pts 8rbs, I’ll take that. This gives us size, scoring and defense off the bench.. Also you got to love the fact Allen, Garnett, Pierce, Doc & Ainge took him out for dinner, I dont’ see Kobe going to recruit people.

Next up Grant Hill.. Championship!

I love Rondo

June 24th, 2009

if you have any tips, links, videos or anything that we may find amusing email us at someloosethoughts@gmail.com

Everyone who reads this or knows me knows that I love Rondo. I love Rondo. That being said he does have his weakness’, the most glaring being his inability to hit the outside shot. This became very apparent during the Orlando series when Rafer Alston would literally play in the paint when Rondo had the ball behind the three point line. Now, the Celtic’s or someone with in has started a small smear campaign JUST IN CASE they end up trading him before the draft which is tomorrow.

Some of the items that have come out are:

  • He was constantly late for practice/games
  • When on time he would sit in his car until 90 minutes before games
  • Is stubborn and not a good team mate

It is funny how we heard none of this during the season. So now trade rumors are a flying and I am going to give a short breakdown, in order of least fave to favorite

  1. Rondo & Allen & (player) To Pistons for Stucky, Prince & Rip
  • This is a decent trade for both teams talent wise. I would say Allen & Rip, at this point in their careers are very similar, but Allen has 1 year left on a 13 mill a year deal, Rip has 3. Stucky is a nice young player who has tons of room to grow, and under Doc he could. I love Prince, he is an above average defensive player and is a solid offensive player, the only thing is probably 5 mill a year more than we want to play. Totally screws the cap until 2013

      2.   Rondo & Allen to Suns for Nash and Amare.

  • I really like this trade for the Celtics. Nash is a liability on defense but the Celtics play a team D, so not as glaring. He has one year left on his deal, so Nash coming off the books allows the Celtics to still go after a Max contract guy in summer of 2010 (ie – LBJ, Wade, Bosh)

      3.   Rondo & Scal for Mike Conely Jr & Rudy Gay.

  • Where do i sign? This is basically a 2-1 deal. Gay is a solid offensive player. Around 19-6-3 a game and is 22. Conely is 20 and was  a back up last year. he is in year 2 of his career and has the ability to be a solid defender. 2 things can happen after this trade. one is Gay learns from Allen on how to be a better SG, or you can trade Allen for another max contract guy with more years on his contract. (ie Boozer, Melo, Yao, Dirk, Amare, Joe Johsnon, Gilbert Arenas)

Many of these guys are available, especially with Allen having an expiring deal. Anyone that gets him would be in the LBJ, Wade, Bosh sweepstakes.

I still want rondo but if he goes, take #3.

Leave No Man Behind

June 23rd, 2009

You know in sports team comradery is huge. You see it with the Celtics all the time. When Rondo gets hit and falls down KG or Pierce is right there to pick them up. Same with the Lakers, when Ariza gets knocked down Kobe goes right over and umm, oh wait, bad example.

But seriously is there a worse Job in sports than grounds crew? Every time you go out there you get boo’d and the rest of the crew will literally just let your ass fall to the ground and run the tarp over your head.

State of Boston

May 8th, 2009

Lets See, unlike the NY fans out there, I currently have three great teams to root for, so lets run it down from least concerned:

Red Sox (odds? who cares, we will win): Lester = Good, Beckett = Good, Papelbon = Good, Team = Good, Management = Good, Prospects = Good……………So in short everything is good

Bruins (+110) - HUGE game tonight. They are down 2-1 and at Carolina. Boston is by far the better team and I believe they will come out on win 4-1 tonight, with Goal 4 being an empty netter. Julian needs to get this team to play 60 minutes of hockey and for the love of everything good and holy please take Chara off line 1 of the power play

Celtics (+4.5, =/-) 189  - Prediction C’s & the OVER. Alston is out, who is covering Rondo? Pierce only played 16 minutes last game, so he is rested, Jesus will play great. Let D. Howard get his (20/20) and stop Turk & Lewis from shooting 3’s and we blow them out.

I love Rondo

May 7th, 2009

In the words of the great Celtics color guy Cedric Maxwell:

I          LOVE           RONDO…. ILOVERONDO

Honestly this kid can just flat out play the game of basketball. Sure he stumbled out of the gate in game one, but so didn’t the whole team. They were coming off a 7 game series which had a total 8 overtimes, anyone would come out sluggish. But last night he was his old self, racking up a triple double, getting House, Pierce and Jesus the ball exactly when they needed it and throwing down a slamma jamma just kicks.

I also give Eddie House a lot of credit for not responding to Rafer Alston’s slap to the head. I would assume the league is going to give him a 1-2 game suspension, which means he will be out for game 3-4 @ Orlando. That is huge for the injury ridden C’s team.

If you want tot listen to an absolutely hysterical story about how Celtics great Cedric Maxwell was a kid his mom told him he was going to get his tonsils out but woke up with a circumcised wee wee, click here.

YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH

April 29th, 2009

I honestly do not know why everyone has this forgone conclusion in their mind that the Finals will be Lakers v. Cavs. If that where the case then why even play the games? Last night Paul Pierce reminded everyone of the TRUTH. and the fact is the TRUTH can hurt you without Jesus, without KG and with Brian Scalbrinie playing 20 minutes.

This guy can just flat out play the game of basketball. He took this team under his wings like he has done many times before we saw ray ray and KG. He took the ball and he won the game.

I LOVE RONDO

April 21st, 2009

Yesterday, as a Boston sports fan, was one of the best days I can remember in recent history

  • First the Boston Red Sox absolutely smoked the O’s, with rookie reliever/starter phenom Justin Masterson on the mount. Papi went 2-4 with 2 walks and Pedroia went 4-6 with 3RBI and 3 runs. Big 4 game swept cancels out bizarro world in the AL east
  • Next and Ethiopian and Kenyan won the Men’s and Women’s Boston Marathon
  • 1 hour later my friends wife crossed the finish line at 3 hours and 36 minutes AND raised over 12k for Dana Farber Cancer Research, way to go Emily!
  • 6 Hours later Shawn Thornton, Byron Bitz & Timmy “Venzna” Thomas took a 3-0 lead against the hated Habs in the first round of the playoffs
  • A few short minutes later Jesus Shuttlesworth was putting up 28 in the second half and 6 points in the last 30 seconds to help the Celtics battle back to a 1-1 tie against the bulls

But the star of the Boston day night (besides Emily) was Rajon Rondo, who fought through a sprained ankle and had a triple-double of 19 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds (7 offensive, really?).

JESUS looking to make All-Star Game

February 4th, 2009

The Celtics continue to to roll over this league called the NBA. They have a 19 game winning streak and are currently in the midst of a 12 game win streak (side note: Lakers snapped their 19 game streak and they play on thursday in Boston).  To this point the real All-Star on the team has been Jesus Shuttlesworth. You can really tell he is much more comfortable this year than he was last year. For his entire carrer he  has been the guy who has had the ball in his hands, and now coming to the Celtics he has had to play more off-ball picks ect, which is a major adjustment but his stats this year are just fantastic: 18.1 ppg, 94.1% FT, 50% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc.  He probably should have been chosen over Paul Pierce for the all-star game as a reserve, but now with the injury to Jameer Nelson he will probably get the nod. (Don’t blow this Stern and pick Mo Williams)

And as for the game last night; great, great pass by Pierce. He could have driven and tied the game, but he saw that smooth stroker open in th corner and knew he could count on him; Because HE GOT GAME!!
