Absolutely fantastic; the team of the decade. Bookmarked the the decade with World Series wins, four world series appearances in total. POPPIN BOTTLES
Andy Pettite was absolutely fantastic. All the Yankees needed was 6 decent innings… and he provided.
A-Rod finally got his ring providing that last piece to make him a viable candidate for G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time)
Mo said he can, and wants to, do it for another 5 years and who can say that might not be true? He is not human. He throws two pitches and has been for over 10 years and no one can still figure it out. He was over-the-hill in 2004, 2005, 2006, etc but still is the most dominant figure in all of sports. Ever. That’s a lock.
Whether he deserved it or not, Swisher was a fan favorite this year and certainly added a dimension (along with AJ and Damon) to the clubhouse that allowed the team to relax and just play baseball.
Yesterday, the Yankees completed a sweep of the Boston Red Sox and clinched not only the AL East but home field advantage throughout the playoffs. That and a quarter can get you a rub and tug in Thailand. While you would rather have home field advantage than not, if the Yankees do not make the World Series it means as much as a bag of crap on your doorstep. Everyone is saying the right things in the clubhouse but the only thing to do now is take the long division series, put Joba in the bullpen for the ALDS, set up the rotation and win.
Last night the Yankees beat the Angels in the 9th inning and the win couldn’t have been better. It has nothing to do with the win clinching at least the Wild Card spot for this year’s playoffs, making it 14 out of the past 15 years that the Yankees have made the playoffs. It is the WAY they beat the Angels. With HUUUUUUUUGHES striking out Hunter and Vlad to keep the game tied in the 8th, then Brett Gardner getting on base, stealing, moving over on a sac bunt then scoring on a sac fly. Small ball baseball that will be needed in October.
I’m also glad they acted as business as usual after clinching the playoffs. It isn’t anything to celebrate. Winning the division, making the World Series and winning said World Series are what we need to be celebrating. Hopefully we will be.
Interesting post from Pete Abraham of the LoHud Yankees Blog where he questions whether Joe Mauer actually has the MVP locked up. Joe Mauer will win it but Pete makes a good point. If someone mentions a Yankee for MVP it has been Tex… but Jeter should 100% be in the talk. MVP is a meaningless award and I could care less if Jeter wins it or what have you, but it he should be included in the convo:
Mauer:
Avg: .368
HR: 26
RBI: 80
OBP: .436
SLG: .615
Jeter:
Avg: .334
HR: 17
RBI: 60
OBP: .398
SLG: .482
As you can see, Mauer has better numbers and should win it but Jeter needs to be included in the conversation. The fact that Jeter has lead his team (.371 Average since July 1) to the best record in the majors isn’t a bad thing either. Where are all those idiot Boston fans that say Jeter sucks and is old and shouldn’t be a starter?
FYI, here are Teixeira’s numbers:
Tex:
Avg: .283
HR: 32
RBI: 101
OBP: .380
SLG: .545
Nothing matters but a World Series win and with Andy Pettite almost pitching a perfect game (screw you Hairston!… not really) last night the Yankees are looking strong heading into September.

See everyone always talks about the “Red Sox nation”, but to be honest with you we are one city, we are 1 New England. This is the difference between NY teams and Boston teams. i do not see A-Roid, Jeter, Mark Sanchez & Steve Avery getting stage at a concert together. But what you do see is Kenny Chesney bringing Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, Mike Timlin, Tim Wakefield and Jacoby Ellsbury on stageat a recent Gillete Stadium concert, and the place went bananas. hell I do not even see A-Fraud inviting any of his team mates out to clubs with him. He saves that for beat up 5 years past their prime celebritie girls.
We here at SLTHQ don’t like to get personal, but Sox fans suck. They are complaining about Joba throwing at their players (see post two below this one) but Pedro Martinex CONTINUALLY threw at Yankees players his whole career as a Sox. Beckett throws inside all the time as well. All great pitchers throw inside. Nolan Ryan hit 158 batters in his career (10th all-time). If you don’t command the inside of the plate you won’t be as dominant.
Also… how many times has Derek Jeter been hit by Red Sox pitchers?
You know what the problem with all of these new commercials is:
A) They don’t actual show the product they are advertising
2) They get these big name actors to do commercials together but they don’t actually do the commercials together. You can clearly tell they are not together and photo shopped in to one another. Honestly, is it that hard to get Jeter and Woods together at the same time. I get it may be tough to get Federer and all but..
z) They use Yankee players.. which is just stupid
I am not sure if this was just announced, or if I missed it previously, but Captain Intangibles is captain of the US WBC team. How fitting is that? So basically, he is captain of the US then? Obama? Nah, I want Derek Jeter… puts more effort in than anyone else on the same field as he is.
Has Jeter ever been the most productive hitter? No. Has his numbers been on a somewhat steady decline the past few years? Yes. Would I rather have anyone else up this season in a big spot? HELL NO.
Captain Intangibles will lead the US team out of the second round, that is for sure.
