A media source tells [Pro Football Talk] that, late [Monday] night, ESPN issued a “do not report” memo to all of its outlets and reporters. The directive came without explanation. “Even some of the reporters are wondering why,” the source said, “but haven’t been told.”[...]
This time around, ESPN can’t claim that the report of a civil suit alleging sexual assault isn’t true. Clearly, it is; Roethlisberger has hired attorney David Cornwell, who has denied the allegations in a statement initially sent to us, and then sent to other media outlets. And we’ve seen, and reported on, the contents of the complaint. So in the absence of a legitimate reason from ESPN, we assume that there’s some other agenda at play here.
I mean, really? That is such bullshit. When Kobe was getting accussed of the same exact thing, they had a full team of reporters out in Denver for the time he was accussed to when the trial was thrown out. Now I am the last person to cry race, but how can we not assume this here? I mean, with all the cotton candy coverage of Brett Favre and now not talking about the next “hard working, blue collar white QB” when he is accussed of something of this nature is bullshit. I can’t wait for The Sports Guy to leave ESPN so I can free myself from ESPN.com.
On a side note… really Ben? This is the girl? Yo’re better than that.
The 2nd Round Western Conference Playoff series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets begins tonight. I am a homer. This is a fact. But if I wasn’t, I don’t think I could come up with any scenario that the Lakers don’t win in 5 or 6 games.
The Lakers have a CLEAR edge at PG, SG and PF and a much stronger bench. The one thing that scares me is what Artest will do in the series. He is one of the best all around players in the game. If he is asked to d up Kobe, which I think he will be, h
I am gay for Artest and still wish the Lakers pulled the trade for him a couple years ago. He is just fantastic. He is as good a defender as Bruce Bowen but just not a dirty (brawl in Detroit excluded).
Another match-up to watch closely is Yao v Bynum. Tons of people are saying Yao has the edge here but I just don’t buy it. Bynum is turning into one of the premiere defenders in the league and is quick enough to d-up Yao in the perimeter to squash those easy j’s that Yao gets.
Tonight the Lakers look to end another Celtics win streak – the Lakers ended the C’s 19 game winning streak on Christmas Day. This time, the Lakers look to end the C’s 12 game win streak. The Lakers will be without their starting center Andrew Bynum, out 8 – 12 weeks, but fortunately have the deepest bench in the game with standouts Trevor Ariza and Lamar Odom leading the pine-stars.
Although the Lakers are coming off back-to-back games (Knicks & Toronto) Pau Gasol was the only player last night to play 40 minutes or more. Kobe, with a thrill for theatrics, will be amped up for this game and will show no signs of fatigue.
The Celtics, who are obviously one of the best, if not THE best, team in the league and is certainly the toughest challenger on the Lakers current East Coast trip, will be amped for this game and ready to even the season series with the best team from the West.
It is no surprise that, as a Lakers fan, I am picking the Lakers to win but when it comes to the “lock” I have to take Lakers at +5.5. This game is going to be balls out for all 48 minutes and will be decided in the last minute.
If you plan on scrolling down let me save you some time…
Kobe is god blah blah blah, I want to have Kobes children, blah blah blah, Kobe is the second coming of Jesus minus the beard. Kobe torched the Knicks, blah blah blah. I could score 61 on the knicks…
Nothing to say/report really. Just thought this picture, shown over at Hot Clicks was awesome. Did you hear Kobe dropped 61 on the Knicks last night? Yea, I know, I am surprised I haven’t heard about it either.
Kobe Bryant scored an MSG all-time high against the Knicks last night with 61 points (20 for 20 from the stripe). Kobe Bryant is, in my opinion, the most talented basketball player in the game right now. He has developed a perimeter game and also has become less elfish and more willing to help his teammates.
The best part of the night last night was the standing ovation he got when leaving the court for the final time to the chants of M.V.P. Sports talk radio in NY is all riled up about this, because a home team shouldn’t commend someone for torching them. One, it was a regular season game that the Knicks had no chance of winning; might as well cheer for something in the Garden. Two, there were a shit load of Lakers fans there. The Knicks have been painfully bad for years now (kudos Isaiah), might as well let them cheer for SOMETHING. When the only buzz that your team has is the possibility of signing someone in the summer of 2010 you know things are going poorly.
I am one of the few people who thoroughly enjoy NBA basketball. The quality is exponetially better than the college game in every single way. The college game is sloppy and riddled with talent that can’t make it in the big show. The college game revolves around the 3-point shot, since the line is so close, and thus cramming the middle which leads to more turnovers and less “action”.
This year is especially great for the NBA. There are at least 5 teams that I think can win the championship and also dial stoppers when on TV: Boston, LA, Orlando, New Orleans and Cleveland. You could throw Denver and San Antonio in there too but I can’t stand either of these teams.
It would be hard to project anything other than a rematch of last year’s Finals but I am going to do just that. Lakers/Cavs will meet in this year’s Finals with Kobe getting that coveted championship sans Shaquielle “How’s My Ass Taste” O’Neil.
Kobe is starring in a new viral ad and while this one isn’t as crazy as the previous ones he has done, this one is pretty hilarious. I am personally a huge Kobe fan and I think that these ads are doing as much good for his image as it is for Nike’s viral marketing. Viral ads are only successful if they gain internet “stardom” so I am just trying to do my part! It would be interested to see what sort of ROI these, and any, viral ads have but nonetheless they are certainly entertaining.
