Some Loose Thoughts

Buzz Bissinger has a great article in the NY Times today on where he thinks Lebron’s next move will be. He co-wrote Shooting Stars with Lebron so I guess that gives him a better idea of what LBJ will go… or not. Who the hell knows. In any rate, this is the best article/opinion I have seen about where Lebron will go… until now.

There are only three teams where LBJ will go:

1. Los Angeles Clippers – Lebron cares more about his image/overall business than winning.  He has never had a killer instinct and that’s something you can’t just “figure out”.  He will never be Magic, Bird or Jordan so I hope people can stop comparing him to those people.  He’ll be more of a Russell Simmons.  That’s right… you heard it hear first.  Anyways, if what I think is true then he wants to be in LA.  Also, how great would it be for his “ego” to take LA and the Staples center away from Kobe?  Everyone is now saying Kobe has what he will never have (by everyone I mean me) so why not stick it to Kobe on his home court?  Plus, he will have to attract bigger celebrities than Malcom in the Middle right?
2. New York Knicks – All of the reasons above times a bazillion.  Lebron bringing the first championship to NY since 1973 (I think that’s the year but I don’t care enough to go double check the date) would make him a GOD.  As I have said to everyone who will listen, imagine the 20 story black and white billboard of Lebron doing his “powder throw” in a Knicks jersey hanging up in Times Square?  People will go b-a-n-a-n-a-s.  That’s right, I just made a Gwen Stefani reference… don’t judge me.  People say the Knicks won’t give him a championship.  Well, one he doesn’t care about winning and two him and Chris Bosh and a few other key players that the Knicks currently have will 100% be automatic title contenders.
3. New Jersey Nyets – This is solely because in a year they will be in Brooklyn, have Jay-z as a partial owner and have the greatest owner in the history of owners.  I don’t really think he’ll be a Nyet, I just wanted an excuse to post to that article.  I love that guy.

A lot of people are saying he is going to go to Chicago (best chance to win immediately) or stay in Cleveland (was born in Akron, home town hero, etc) and I couldn’t disagree more.  As I have mentioned, LBJ does not care about anything but his brand.  He could care less about winning.  He wants celebrities  sitting courtside and to become better than Jordan (as a Global brand).  I don’t hate on him for it, as a fervent capitalist I applaud his effort… sooner or later everyone will realize the same thing.

Prediction: LBJ will be a New York Knick.  Lock it down.

As discussed previously on SLT and EVERYWHERE ELSE in the world, Lebron James/Nike confiscated all footage of Lebron getting dunked on by some kid who was attending the Nike/Lebron Basketball camp. Well guess what… the video finally leaked.

This is what all the hype was about? He barely got dunked on by some uber-athletic young kid. Is that a huge surprise? Does that mean that this Jamal Crawford fella is better than LBJ? If Nike and the Lebron camp didn’t try and hide the video this would have been a non-story… good call.

The dude is such a puss, it is unbelievable bron bron how does A-rod’s ass taste?

The guy who got the tape stolen from him was on a podcast, here is a bit of the transcript.

Ryan Miller: [The dunk] was good. I haven’t looked online to read too much about it. It was as good as it could’ve been hyped up to be. LeBron’s team actually lost two out of three games to these college guys. It was LeBron; Danny Green, the rookie; Christian Eyenga, the rookie; Tarence Kinsey, who’s on the team; and one of LeBron’s high school buddies. And Jordan Crawfordblew by Danny Green, the kid from North Carolina on the Cavs. And LeBron came for some help defense, and they jumped at the same time, and he threw it down with two hands over LeBron. This is, like, a 6-foot-4 kid.

Interviewer: Man. So then, when you get word that they want your camera, then, how did that all break down?

Miller: It’s funny because LeBron’s team won that game, actually, [the one] with the dunk. And then LeBron’s team lost the next game to the same group of college guys. And LeBron was just standing there, grabbing some water, ’cause it was winners stay on, so LeBron had to sit out a game. And I actually went up and introduced myself and said, “Hey, I’m Ryan Miller.” LeBron’s good friends with Jonny Flynn, and I know Jonny real well, and I was like, “[I'm] good friends with Jonny.” Jonny gave me a little message to tell LeBron if I ended up seeing him. He’s like, “Oh, where are you from?” I said, “Syracuse” — [it was a] “nice to meet you” type of thing. He’s pretty friendly. Then two minutes later, I saw him go over to Lynn Merritt, the director of basketball at Nike, and then he was talking to him for a second, and then Lynn brought me and another camera guy over. We were the only two people filming — it was later at night — and they said, we need your tape. They claimed you weren’t supposed to be shooting the college and the pro guys working out, and I was told earlier in the day that you could, and there was no media policy saying you couldn’t. It had to have been because LeBron — he played terribly all day, actually. Those three games he played terribly. So my guess is he didn’t want anybody seeing the footage. That’s the only thing we could think of.

Interviewer: So when you get your camera or tape — so that tape is gone?

Miller: I don’t know what happened to it. He originally claimed, well, like, these guys are just getting in shape right now, these Cavs guys. People don’t need to be seeing ‘em. He was kind of giving me the runaround with different excuses. There was a guy in charge of the media who took my tape, and he’s like, “You know what, lemme just pass this by the Nike guys, and I’ll give it back to you in the morning.” But the next morning, he said the director at Nike actually wanted the tape himself, so I have no idea where it is.

What a fucking pussy LBJ is.  Mark my words, we have the second coming of A-Rod on our hands. This guy is so god dam concerned about his image.  I can not wait until 6 years from now when he is in NY and has won zero championships. Him and A-rod will be going out and giving the Eiffel tower to Kate Hudson at 36 while they kiss themselves in the mirror and stare at there pecks. What a fraud.

New nickname LB-GAY

AKRON, Ohio – You want to see video of Xavier’s Jordan Crawford dunking on LeBron James? If so, too bad. Because you’re not going to see it. Thanks to Nike. Turns out, there were at least two cameras rolling Monday night when Crawford dunked on James during a pick-up game here at the LeBron James Skills Academy. It was a two-handed jam, the kind that would’ve circulated quickly on YouTube. But Nike officials eliminated that possibility shortly after the dunk happened by allegedly confiscating tapes from various cameramen. Freelance photographer Ryan Miller was one of the cameramen shooting the game. He told CBSSports.com that Nike Basketball Senior Director Lynn Merritt took his tape. Worth noting is that there is no policy against filming at the LeBron James Skills Academy, and Miller said he had been filming all day without incident. Nobody ever told him to stop. Nobody ever said there was a problem … until after Crawford dunked on James. LeBron called Lynn over and told him something,” Miller said. “That’s how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, ‘Hey, Lynn. Come here.’” Minutes later, Miller said Merritt demanded his tape. “He just said, ‘We have to take your tape,’” Miller said. “They took it from other guys, too.” “There’s nothing I can think of besides LeBron just not wanting it online,” Miller said. “It’s a good story to tell people, I guess. But then again, I’m kind of pissed. I lost my tape.”

But I digress.  So Shaq was traded to the Cavs last night for two contracts, a draft pick that will never play in the NBA and a sack of cash.  In a classic panic move, the Cavs took on Shaq to defend Dwight Howard because Dwight Howard beat them in the playoffs this year.  Here is the unofficial statement that Cavs ownership sent to Lebron after the trade:

See?  We will do ANYTHING to get you a championship.  And by ANYTHING we mean we will get an aged center who has been known to hog the spotlight and has played for 4 teams in 5 years.  Please don’t leave us next year.  If you want, we will sign any aging player we can get our hands on.  We know that the pick-n-roll is what killed us during the Orlando series, and that Shaq is not even close to quick enough to help with that but we are VERY confident he will convince you that Cleveland is the best.

I really hope this ends badly and Shaq can just retire and be out of our lives for ever.  And by out of our lives I mean in a studio and on every single medium so he gets as much attention as possible.

Oh, and just for the record, I bet Kobe’s ass tastes MUCH better than Lebron’s.

Everyone who reads this or knows me knows that I love Rondo. I love Rondo. That being said he does have his weakness’, the most glaring being his inability to hit the outside shot. This became very apparent during the Orlando series when Rafer Alston would literally play in the paint when Rondo had the ball behind the three point line. Now, the Celtic’s or someone with in has started a small smear campaign JUST IN CASE they end up trading him before the draft which is tomorrow.

Some of the items that have come out are:

• He was constantly late for practice/games
• When on time he would sit in his car until 90 minutes before games
• Is stubborn and not a good team mate

It is funny how we heard none of this during the season. So now trade rumors are a flying and I am going to give a short breakdown, in order of least fave to favorite

1. Rondo & Allen & (player) To Pistons for Stucky, Prince & Rip

• This is a decent trade for both teams talent wise. I would say Allen & Rip, at this point in their careers are very similar, but Allen has 1 year left on a 13 mill a year deal, Rip has 3. Stucky is a nice young player who has tons of room to grow, and under Doc he could. I love Prince, he is an above average defensive player and is a solid offensive player, the only thing is probably 5 mill a year more than we want to play. Totally screws the cap until 2013

      2.   Rondo & Allen to Suns for Nash and Amare.

• I really like this trade for the Celtics. Nash is a liability on defense but the Celtics play a team D, so not as glaring. He has one year left on his deal, so Nash coming off the books allows the Celtics to still go after a Max contract guy in summer of 2010 (ie – LBJ, Wade, Bosh)

      3.   Rondo & Scal for Mike Conely Jr & Rudy Gay.

• Where do i sign? This is basically a 2-1 deal. Gay is a solid offensive player. Around 19-6-3 a game and is 22. Conely is 20 and was  a back up last year. he is in year 2 of his career and has the ability to be a solid defender. 2 things can happen after this trade. one is Gay learns from Allen on how to be a better SG, or you can trade Allen for another max contract guy with more years on his contract. (ie Boozer, Melo, Yao, Dirk, Amare, Joe Johsnon, Gilbert Arenas)

Many of these guys are available, especially with Allen having an expiring deal. Anyone that gets him would be in the LBJ, Wade, Bosh sweepstakes.

I still want rondo but if he goes, take #3.

I can’t get enough of this video. It is just fantastic. I love that that guy on the end (who I swear is Cuba Gooding Jr.) is just straight watching the game the whole time. Who cares that they were signing off and supposed to be doing the weather. Just fantastic.

Not sure if you have seen anything about this new basketball player that has popped on the scene. His name is Lebron James, I think. Well for some reason he was doing an interview with 60 Minutes and hit a ridiculous shot from beyond half court. Mark my words… this guy COULD be good.

Lebron James trumped Kobe’s 61 last night when he electrified the Garden crowd to a triple double and 52pts.  Yesterday on PTI Wilbon predicted LBJ would drop a Quadruple Double… unheard of.  We knew it would be a special night but noone expected this.  I for one can’t wait for 2010.  This reporter may call it the BEST. GARDEN.PERFORMANCE.EVER.
